AUB’s HOUSE OF CARDS
Summary
We collaborated on creating what may be the world's largest prospectus installation for the Arts by the Sea Festival in Bournemouth. This ambitious project brought together multiple partners to transform an iconic university prospectus design into a large-scale public art installation.
Working alongside Bond and Coyne, we adapted the winning design from Queens Elizabeth's School, Wimborne into a large format structure suitable for public display.
The project required careful engineering to ensure both visual impact and structural integrity while maintaining sustainability principles.
Sustainability Approach
Long-term design: Built for permanent relocation to the university post-festival
Modular construction: Designed for easy disassembly and reuse
100% timber construction (excluding essential brackets, fixings, and finishes)
Direct-to-media printing to reduce material waste
Low VOC finishes for improved environmental impact
High material efficiency in manufacturing processes
Environmental Impact
Initial carbon impact estimates suggest approximately 2.5 tonnes of CO2. However, the timber used potentially sequesters over 3 tonnes of carbon, making the installation carbon negative. As always, any remaining impact is offset through our 1% for the Planet commitment.
This project exemplifies our commitment to creating impactful, sustainable installations that serve both artistic and environmental purposes.
